For absolute Die verification, a destructive process is sometimes required in order to expose the die for a full visual inspection. Liberty utilizes an automatic JetEtch Acid Decapsulator manufactured by the Nisene Technology Group. This equipment allows us to quickly and cleanly expose the component’s die for microscopic inspection. The JetEtch system will decap all Thru-Hole and Surface-Mount component packages with the exception of ceramics and cans – which we have separate decapping equipment for.
The acid-etch process safely removes controlled amounts of the component package surface material in a user defined space in order to clearly expose the complete die for full visual inspection.
